Spring has SPRUNG!

The weather has been SO beautiful!  OVCS teachers and students have been taking full advantage of the sunny days.  A few extra minutes at recess has been common.  Plus, eating our lunches outside goes without saying.  Tuesday was “Picnic for Lunch” as part of the March Crazy Days.  The lunch ladies made it very special, including Creamsicles for all!  Mr. Dunbar’s Bible class was outside painting rocks as part of a Bible lesson.  Other classes have gone outside for reading groups or during other teaching times that work well in the sun.  Praise God for the encouragement that good weather brings!

Monday was Pajama and Slippers Day.    It was fun to be comfy (and colorful)!  Thursday is Face Painting Day.  Next week we are looking forward to Crazy Hair Day and our annual Grandparent’s Day!

This week’s special chapel speaker was Mrs. Ming from the Root Cellar.  The students loved hearing about this precious ministry and were challenged to consider what God’s purpose for each of them is.

Self Defense Class

Mr.W "defending" himself!

Today, the 3rd through 7th grade students and teachers, as well as many homeschool families, participated in a one-day self defense class.  We had fun, worked up a sweat, and learned a lot.  Check out more pics from the class under “Events,” then “pictures” on this site.

Off to a “CRAZY” start!

Reminder:  Dana Perkins and his puppet friends will be joining us for chapel tomorrow.  Students may bring their favorite stuffed animal!

UPDATE:  Friday, March 16th is the day before St. Patrick’s Day.  It is scheduled as a Jean’s Day/School Spirit Day.  We are adding the option of “Green Day,” also.

March

Do you realize that February ends on Wednesday?  Amazing!

March is full of activity, so please keep an ear to the ground.  There will certainly be updates to help keep everyone organized.

March Crazy Days starts Thursday with Hat and Shades Day.  Friday is a Free Jean’s Day with the option of dressing with School Spirit.  A complete calendar of events will go home this week.  Events include Make Your Own Sundae, Clashing Clothes Day, and Granparent’s Day!

Upcoming Chapels are coming together.  This week Mrs. Elliott is organizing a “Bible Charades” activity that will involve small groups.  Next week (March 7th) special guest, Dana Perkins, will be bringing a chapel message with the help of his puppet friends.

Lastly, I wanted to remind families that there will be “Open Doors” every Tuesday in March, April, and May.  This will be a time for current or prospective families to observe the classrooms, tour the building, and meet the staff.  Calling ahead will help us prepare.  You are each encouraged to come observe and to spread the word to friends and family.

Staying Busy

Today at chapel, we sang “Happy Birthday” to three students, OVCS style!  It is always fun to make each member of our school family feel special.

Our dear friend, Pastor Jonathan Marshall, presented a meaningful chapel message on the “greatest commandment” to “Love the Lord God with all our heart, soul, and mind.”  My favorite part was the example of his dad helping him learn how to repair a broken lamp.

Parents, remember that tomorrow night (Thursday, February 16th) is an important informational meeting.  We will discuss possible dress code improvements, as well as looking ahead to next school year.  Re-enrollment packets will be available at the end of the meeting, along with deadlines and financial information.

Note:  We are still accepting the Parent Surveys!  Many have been received, but not all.  Please take a moment to fill out the survey and return it to the office (or via e-mail).  If you need a new copy, please let us know.
