Our Parent-Teacher Fellowship (PTF) group at Ossipee Valley Christian School is an integral piece of our community. Led by parent volunteer, April Wadsworth, and consisting of a dedicated blend of parents and teachers all aiming to improve our school and our school experience through events and fundraisers.
The official PTF mission is:
To build the OVCS community in a way that honors and glorifies God and nurtures our children’s spiritual and academic growth.
Kicking off 2024
We have experienced an enthusiastic first half of the year. Our pie-making fundraiser was a well-oiled machine, with several new faces and some amazing veterans! As we enter the new year, we have a wealth of creative ideas, we are all set to make this year memorable and fun-filled.
So, let’s delve into the exciting lineup of activities we have for the second half of the 2023-2024 school year, designed to raise funds and build fellowship among the OVCS community.
February: Fellowship Events
The ‘F’ in PTF is for Fellowship… and it’s a core of what our group is all about. We are exploring various ideas to promote fellowship, including potluck dinners, trivia or game nights, and even an outdoor movie night. Fellowship events foster a sense of community and belonging. These events are fantastic opportunities for OVCS families to come together and enjoy each other’s company.
One such example, last year’s “Mom’s Night Out” paint night in conjunction with the art department was a huge hit. Adults were invited, and attendees brought snacks or potluck items. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and future events may include a small admission fee, and seats may be limited, so be on the lookout for save the date announcements!
March Events…
Penny War (3/1/24-3/31/24)
March brings the exciting return of Spirit Week and the Penny War, a spirited competition that generated $709 last year.
How it works:
- Each class group has a jug for collecting money.
- Gain points by adding pennies and bills to your class jug. All pennies and bills ADD to the classroom total.
- Lower other class points by adding silver coins to their jugs. All silver coins SUBTRACT from the classroom total.
- The class with the most points WINS!
The PTF counts the money and announces the winner in April. The winning class will choose from several fun prize options.
Last year, the winner was Mrs. Weirick’s 2nd & 3rd Grade class with 5,071 points – WOW!!
This is always a fun and competitive event that the kids and staff thoroughly enjoy.
Grandparents Day (3/20/24)
Grandparents Day, celebrated on March 20th, also offers opportunities for PTF to contribute through food donations. More announcements to come!
April: OVCS Auction
The OVCS Auction is another significant school-wide event, and PTF plays a crucial role in concessions. Volunteers are needed to make, plate, and sell food. A TV will be hung in the lunchroom for attendees to watch the auction in real-time.
We’re looking for volunteers to support the event in several key roles:
- Kitchen volunteers: You’ll help prepare, plate, and serve food and concessions through the window.
- A team of 2-3 dedicated kitchen volunteers to oversee food preparation.
- One volunteer to manage the window and register. This role includes maintaining a tally sheet to track all food sales for future planning and record-keeping.
Any help in these crucial positions will be greatly appreciated!
June Events…
Graduation (6/7/24)
PTF is aims to bless all graduates with a special graduation experience, including providing their caps and gowns.
Field Day (6/10/24)
Field Day on June 10th is always a fun-filled day for staff and students, with opportunities for PTF to contribute through providing breakfast and snack options to help the day a super fun success. More announcements to come!
Awards Night (6/12/24)
Awards night on June 12th is our last hoorah of the year! Again, PTF is here to contribute through food donations and volunteers to make it all extra special!

Ongoing Improvements and Goals
At OVCS, our commitment to excellence goes beyond the classroom. The Parent-Teacher Fellowship Group (PTF) plays a vital role in enhancing our school environment and supporting ongoing improvements.
Our primary mission is to provide those special “extras” that make OVCS a unique and engaging place to learn and grow. This year, we’re focused not only on meeting our current obligations but also on assisting Headmaster Weirick in advancing critical school improvements. These include:
- Second-Floor Bathroom Completion. We’re dedicated to ensuring that every aspect of our school is functional and comfortable.
- Water Fountain Maintenance. Hydration is essential, and we want to make sure our students have reliable access to clean drinking water.
- HVAC and Electrician Fees. A comfortable learning environment is paramount for academic success.
- Other Essential Projects. We have a range of additional initiatives aimed at making OVCS the best it can be.
In addition to these projects, we’re proud of our dedication to the school’s overall improvement:
Playground: In the past, we organized a successful “Playground Improvement Day,” with generous material donations. We’re actively exploring avenues for funding to continue enhancing our play areas.
Lunchroom: Our plans include upgrading the lunchroom with a new floor, chair rail, and heat registers to create a more inviting and comfortable space.
Teacher’s Lounge: We’re working to create a welcoming retreat for our dedicated staff. Donations of cash, supplies like K-cups, sugar, water, creamers, and non-perishable healthy snacks are greatly appreciated. We’re also adding some greenery to bring life to the space.
Your support and participation in PTF fundraisers are crucial in achieving these goals. Together, we can ensure that OVCS remains a place where students thrive, teachers excel, and the entire community feels proud to be a part of our mission.
