A Firm Foundation: Middle School

A firm middle school foundation at Ossipee Valley Christian School in Cornish Maine

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.”
Matthew 7:24-27

At OVCS, our middle school teachers do more than just teach — they nurture, encourage, and walk alongside their students during these pivotal years. With a heart for Christian education and a passion for helping students grow, they create a classroom environment where learners feel supported academically, emotionally, and spiritually. Through engaging lessons, interactive projects, and meaningful connections, our teachers help students build confidence and develop a love for learning. Their flexible and caring approach ensures that every student feels seen, valued, and capable — both in the classroom and in life.

Meet Mr. Weirick

A Teacher at Ossipee Valley Christian School for 23 years.

Step into Mr. Weirick’s classroom, and you’ll quickly notice a powerful balance — a place where students are both challenged and deeply cared for. “My goal in teaching is to equip students with the tools they need to learn on their own and to think critically,” he explains. And that goal is evident in every part of his classroom.

Students are given the space to fail — and then the encouragement to overcome. “I provide my students with room to fail in the name of learning to overcome,” he shares. In this environment, mistakes aren’t feared, but embraced as part of the learning process.

It’s not just about academics. Mr. Weirick builds trust by being real with his students. “I allow myself to be vulnerable. I believe it builds trust and impacts my ability to reach them through teaching,” he says. “I am their teacher first and foremost, but long after they leave my classroom, I will always be their friend.”

In his own words:

“I want the kids to have fun and love learning. Once students realize that big problems are really just a bunch of smaller, more manageable problems, they tend to succeed.”

“Mr. Weirick has a unique ability to challenge his students while making them feel seen and supported. He makes learning meaningful — and fun.” – Anonymous Parent

Mr. Weirick has taught everything from 3rd grade to high school over the past 23 years at OVCS, including 15 years in the 3rd/4th grade classroom. A graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in music, he brings both creativity and academic strength to his teaching.

His classroom is alive with connection — between students, subjects, and real life. Whether they’re diving into a great book or exploring a math concept, students are encouraged to make learning personal. “We choose books they can’t help but love and try to connect all material to our own lives,” he explains.

For Mr. Weirick, OVCS isn’t just where he works — it’s home. “OVCS is a special place,” he says. “It has the structure of a traditional school setting, but the atmosphere is like family.” His wife also teaches at the school, and all four of their children attend — making OVCS truly a family affair.

Meet Mr. DeLapp

A Middle & High School Teacher at Ossipee Valley Christian School for 11 years.

Step into Mr. DeLapp’s classroom, and you’ll find a space where learning and laughter go hand in hand. With a relational teaching style and a strong focus on both structure and creativity, he creates an atmosphere where students can thrive. “I try to allow for creativity and fun, while also making sure we stay on task and accomplish our goals,” he explains.

Students appreciate that balance — and they’ve noticed that their teacher isn’t afraid to be himself. “I can be a little bit goofy, I guess,” he admits with a smile. That authenticity makes his classroom a place where students feel comfortable, connected, and ready to learn.

In his own words:

“I enjoy teaching math because we’re able to focus on a particular concept every day and make concrete progress over the course of the year.”

“Mr. DeLapp makes learning fun and engaging. He’s relatable and easy to talk to, but also keeps everyone focused. My child looks forward to his class every day!” – Anonymous Parent

Mr. DeLapp holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies and Philosophy and previously pastored for several years. His deep understanding of both Scripture and logic brings a thoughtful, well-rounded approach to his teaching.

For the past 11 years at OVCS, he’s helped students not only grow academically but also build confidence in who they are. He’s particularly drawn to the school’s atmosphere. “The kids and the faculty all seem to genuinely care about others and enjoy being a part of the school,” he says.

His classroom is a place where students are challenged, supported, and sometimes even surprised — by a little bit of humor, a deeper insight, or a creative twist in the lesson. It’s this combination of heart, purpose, and playfulness that makes his teaching stand out.

At OVCS, we’re thankful for educators like Mr. DeLapp, who bring clarity, joy, and personal connection into every day of learning.
