At Ossipee Valley Christian School, we believe in providing students with opportunities to grow not just academically, but physically, socially, and spiritually. That’s why we’re thrilled to kick off another season of Disc Golf — a sport that’s quickly becoming a favorite among our students in grades 6–12.
Here’s what to know:
- Who can join? Any 6th–12th grade OVCS or Homeschool student, whether you’re a beginner or experienced.
- No equipment? No problem! We have discs available for those who need them.
- Practices: Start Tuesday, March 25 & Thursday, March 27 from 3–4 PM at OVCS.
- Practice Location: Weekly practices will include trips to Woodland Valley in Limerick.
- Meets: One per week starting April 22, with the Championship on May 27.
- Fee: $75 covers practices and meets.
- Low commitment: Practice once or twice a week, but you can still compete even if you miss one.
Whether your child is already a fan or has never thrown a disc before, Disc Golf is a fun, laid-back sport that’s open to everyone — no experience required! It’s played much like traditional golf, but instead of clubs and balls, players use flying discs and aim for elevated baskets on scenic outdoor courses. It’s easy to learn, inexpensive to get started with, and most of all, it’s a great way to enjoy fresh air and friendly competition.
A Co-Ed Sport with Room for Everyone
Unlike some of our other sports programs, Disc Golf at OVCS is co-ed and inclusive of all skill levels. Boys and girls in grades 6 through 12 play on the same team, and during meets, players are generally grouped into “cards” by gender. Depending on interest, we may have both a JV and Varsity team — however we will all practice as one united team, learning and growing together.
And the best part? No pressure to commit right away. Students are welcome to attend a couple of practices to see if it’s a good fit for them. Last year, several students who had never picked up a disc ended up loving the sport — and many still play today.
Practice Schedule & Meet Info
We’ll kick things off with two introductory practices at the school:
- Tuesday, March 25 from 3–4 PM
- Thursday, March 27 from 3–4 PM
After that, practices will include weekly trips to Woodland Valley Disc Golf Course in Limerick, a beautiful, local course perfect for skill-building and team bonding.
The season officially begins April 22, with one meet per week, leading up to the championship meet on May 27. All students can participate in meets, even if they miss a practice—though regular attendance is encouraged for improvement and connection with the team.
The $75 sports fee covers all practices and meets. And if your student doesn’t have their own discs, no worries! The school has extras available, and we’ll help you get started without a big investment.
Why Disc Golf?
Aside from being a ton of fun, Disc Golf is:
- A great outdoor activity that builds coordination and focus
- A low-pressure way to compete and grow in confidence
- An opportunity to fellowship and build community
- A chance to disconnect from screens and enjoy God’s creation
Plus, our team has a strong record—Champions two years ago and runners-up last year!
As Mr. DeLapp, our Disc Golf coach and OVCS 6th grade teacher, puts it: “Disc Golf is a great sport that gets you outside, lets you enjoy God’s beauty, and helps students connect with others in a fun, healthy way.”
So, whether your child is a seasoned athlete or just looking for a new adventure this spring, we invite them to join us. Come throw a few discs, make new friends, and be part of a team that celebrates growth, sportsmanship, and joy.
