Disc Golf is Back at OVCS

At Ossipee Valley Christian School, we believe in providing students with opportunities to grow not just academically, but physically, socially, and spiritually. That’s why we’re excited to be in full swing with another season of Disc Golf – a sport that continues to grow in popularity among our students in grades 6–12.

With practices already underway and students getting out on the course each week, it’s been a great start to the season!

Here’s what to know:

  • Who can join? Any 6th – 12th grade OVCS or Homeschool student, whether you’re a beginner or experienced.
  • No equipment? No problem! We have discs available for those who need them.
  • Practices: Weekly practices are already in session, giving students consistent time to build skills and connect as a team.
  • Practice Location: Practices include trips to Woodland Valley in Limerick.
  • Meets: One meet per week, leading up to the Championship on May 26.
  • Fee: $75 covers practices and meets.
  • Low commitment: Practice once or twice a week – students can still compete even if they miss practice.

Whether your child is already a fan or has never thrown a disc before, Disc Golf is a fun, laid-back sport that’s open to everyone – no experience required! It’s played much like traditional golf, but instead of clubs and balls, players use flying discs and aim for elevated baskets on scenic outdoor courses. It’s easy to learn, inexpensive to get started with, and most of all, it’s a great way to enjoy fresh air and friendly competition.

A Co-Ed Sport with Room for Everyone

Unlike some of our other sports programs, Disc Golf at OVCS is co-ed and inclusive of all skill levels. Boys and girls in grades 6th through 12th play on the same team, and during meets, players are typically grouped into “cards” by gender. Depending on interest, we may have both a JV and Varsity team – but we practice as one unified group, learning and growing together.

And the best part? Students can still jump in and get involved. Even if they’re new to the sport, this is a welcoming environment where they can learn quickly and feel part of the team right away.

Practice Schedule & Meet Info

With practices already in motion, students are getting valuable time each week to develop their skills and prepare for competition. Many practices include trips to Woodland Valley Disc Golf Course in Limerick – a beautiful local course that’s perfect for both beginners and experienced players.

Practices: Typically, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3-4 PM at OVCS.

Why Disc Golf?

Aside from being a ton of fun, Disc Golf is:

  • A great outdoor activity that builds coordination and focus
  • A low-pressure way to compete and grow in confidence
  • An opportunity to fellowship and build community
  • A chance to disconnect from screens and enjoy God’s creation

Plus, our team continues to build on a strong legacy – with a championship win two years ago and a runner-up finish last season.

As Mr. DeLapp, our Disc Golf coach and OVCS 7th/8th grade teacher, shares:
“Disc Golf is a great sport that gets you outside, lets you enjoy God’s beauty, and helps students connect with others in a fun, healthy way.”

So, whether your child is a seasoned athlete or just looking to try something new this spring, there’s still time to be part of the team. Come out, throw a few discs, build friendships, and be part of a program centered on growth, encouragement, and fun.
