Hello OVCS Friends and Family,
As you may know, the 5th and 6th grade class at OVCS has started a new ministry this school year called The Foster Closet. We began the year developing a mission and vision statement.
To love and serve foster and adoptive families in need in Southern Maine by receiving and distributing physical items (ie. diapers, clothing, and toys), as well as offering home visits and various acts of service (ie. yard work, childcare, and meals).
To see every child in Maine have a forever home with parents who are properly equipped to provide for their needs.
The beginning of the year involved a lot of behind the scenes planning, but in recent weeks we’ve begun to put “feet to our faith.” Students had their first home visit last Thursday, which proved to be a blessing to all involved.
“We had an absolutely awesome time today serving [the foster mom]. The kids who were able to go were just awesome; I can’t praise them enough. She had two babies at home with her today and the kids were so engaged and nurturing toward them. They cleaned and played with the kids. They were thoughtful and observant and talked with [the foster mom] a great deal. They really were a blessing to her today. I was also proud of the kids who didn’t go on this particular trip. I did not hear one single complaint about not going and they were so great for the subs today. I had several people say they were great. I am just really proud of our kids and the way they served and put others first today. I also want to thank those who provided food and were willing to as well. She was so happy for the meal and I am thankful that I didn’t need to do anything more than pop an email. We are truly blessed at OVCS to have such wonderful kids and families. Have a wonderful night and be proud of your kids.”
